As willow image plays a significant role in the composition of 300 Song Lyrics, which also brings about great difficulties to its translation within transferring the beauty in sense of the 300 Song Lyrics. The thesis begins with a brief review of the statements about the willow image made by Chinese and western scholars and made the summarizes about the image translation in poetry. Most researches focused on image translation are associated with empirical studies based on principles, it is rarely to study on willow images translation with the perspective of theoretical constructions.Holding agreement with the idea, the author analyzes the limitations of the previous researches and presents the newly born translation theory Pragmatic Markedness Equivalence Principle(PMEP) which is a theoretical system proposed by Hou Guojin(2000), of which uses pragmatics as an approach to translation studies, and we conceive PMEP theory to launch this research. This paper would like to use the 12 rules of Hou Guojin’s PMEP for reference to analyze the willow image markedness or unmarkedness equivalence in terms of their phonetic, wording, and syntax,(linguistic facets) as well as their pragmatic facets repetitively, including rhetoric and meaning analysis. While twelve rules concentrating on Source Text/Translated Text(ST/TT) of willow images in very details, and are composed into the three keynotes: rule 1, 9 and 12 for willow image context analysis, rule 2, 10 and 11 for willow image meaning analysis, and the rest rules(rule 3-8) for willow image linguistic analysis. The meaningful analysis is more important in the willow images translation according to the 12 rules(rules). Thus, it tries to broaden functions of PMEP, which is not only just a translation evaluation but also is the guidance of translating work. In this paper it concluded that the translator should try to understand both the object of willow image and its implications in the source language; and if it doesn’t work, the translator should abandon its object in the source language and convey the implications of willow image. Thus, the readers could have cognitive experience in common in the target text and the source text. The highest evaluation is that the willow image in the source text can be equallytranslated into the translation text based on PMEP.Since PMEP is beneficial to testify its serviceability and operability in various fields. All in all, the study tries to make a progress based on PMEP, hoping to take a further step up in development of PMEP.
