Research Of Farmers’ Religious Belief On The Backgroung Of New Countryside Construction

Completing the countryside religion work and serving rural development is one of important subjects in our new socialist countryside construction enterprise. Based on the questionnaire and on-the-spot interview method, we investigated the religious beliefs of farmers in X town, Dongtai, Jiangsu province. Then we analyze the causes of "religious fever" in rural area and discuss the positive and negative impact of religion development on rural society. We also explore the effective strategies to promote harmonious development of religion and new countryside construction.The paper contains the following parts:First of all, we conclude the development situation of X town in Dongtai. Then we introduce farmers’ basic status of religious beliefs, including the analysis of the characteristics of farmers’ religious beliefs, the comparative analysis of farmers’ religious behaviors, etc.Then, this paper analyzes the causes of "religious fever" phenomena in X town rural areas. We think the rapid development of rural religion has complex reasons, not only with the deep economic reasons, political reasons and social reasons, but also with the reasons of farmer individual and religious system and organization.Thirdly, this paper expounds the impact of farmers’ religious beliefs on the construction of new socialist countryside. Overall, the positive effects and negative influence coexist. On the one hand, the development of religion contribute to country’s social order and stability, farmers’awareness of participating, the formation of good social moral and the development of rural culture. On the other hand, the drawbacks of religion will also bring some negative effects on economic, political, social and cultural construction.Finally, we discuss how to realize the harmonious development between farmers’ religious beliefs and construction of new countryside. Firstly, we should vigorously promote the construction of the rural society and economy, including the development of economy and he improvement of social security; secondly, it is important to improve the basic-level government’s management ability for religious affairs; thirdly, to form good cultural is urgent, including strengthening the guidance of mainstream thought consciousness, molding good rural culture atmosphere, etc.
