This paper is a translation analysis report. The translation is an excerpt from The History of Japanese Agricultural Technology:From Early Modern to Modern by Oka Mitsuou. The book mainly introduces the development of the planting techniques of Japan’s rice, cotton and other crops from early modern to modern. Japan is the world’s third-largest economy and the second-strongest capitalist economic powers in the world. It’s economy is highly developed. Japan and China have many similar characteristics, such as a large population with relatively little land and the small-scale production of peasant households etc. After the Meiji Restoration, the rapid development of industry in Japan has created favorable technology conditions for the development of agriculture. Japan’s agriculture has made tremendous development and achieved agricultural modernization. Approaches which Japan has taken in the process of agricultural modernization have important reference significance to the development of China agriculture, such as promoting land resource conserving technologies, supporting agriculture vigorously, giving full play to the role of Japan Agricultural Cooperatives, establishing a sound legal system of agriculture, focusing on the development of local specialty agriculture.The contents of this report can be separated into four parts. The first part states the objective and significance of the report, introduces agricultural science and technology literature, proposes the research problems which this paper studies and the difficulties during the translation process. Part two elaborates the characteristics of agricultural Japanese, some issues need to pay attention to when translating technological Japanese, the preparation before translation and the process of translation.Part three analyses some specific cases, puts forward solutions in accordance with specific translation problems. These cases mainly include the translations of specialized terminologies, Japanese characteristic words, long sentences, and polysemous words. The last part is the summary of the translation experience.In order to make the translation work more smoothly, we need to reserve some specialized terminologies, understand the Japanese culture, master a variety of translation methods, and improve translation conversion capability to translate works better.
