A Report On The E-C Translation Of Automotive Engineer

With the fast development of science and technology, the number of English papers on techniques has been increasing. As a branch of technological English, automotive English carries both the features of techniques and the major characteristics of the automotive engineering. This practice report mainly selects passages from Automotive Engineer of this year, a professional magazine for automotive fans. Firstly, it analyzes and summarizes the features of the source texts’ languages and then makes a comparative analysis of the parallel texts and the original ones from the lexical and syntaxical perspectives in automotive English, especially in its derived meanings and semantic changes. Finally, it summarizes different E-C translation strategies to guide translation practice from the two levels.The translation strategies of addition, subtraction and conversion are applied in technical term translation, while linear translation, reverse translation, split translation and combined translation techniques are employed in analyzing and translating long and difficult sentences.
