Laohushan Culture was discovered and identified as an archaeological culture in the 1980 s.It was mainly refered to the remains represented by Laohushan site in Liangcheng County.Related sites has already been found that both of them are situated on the hills north of the Daihai Lake in Inner Mongolia, including the sites of Xibaiyu Mianpo,Bancheng,Yuanzigou and Damiaopo. The discovery of Laohushan site has received extensive attention of the academia and many of the relevant articles has been published. However, most of the articles are focus on the research of chronological and pedigree in mid-south of Inner Mongolia area and less of the independent research for Laohushan Culture periodization. Therefore the phase divisions are general and many researchers have different opinions on content and distribution of Laohushan Culture, which embodies the ambiguous viewpoints of this culture. So this paper prepare to begin with the typical sites of Laohushan Culture, then combine stratum with potteries, discuss the evolution of typical potteries and establish the culture periodization. And on this basis, discuss the years and origins of Laohushan Culture. The paper is divided into four parts as follows:Chapter 1: IntroductionThis section defines the research subject of this paper. It also summarizes the current situations, existing problems and research pupose on Laohushan Culture.Chapter 2: Research of periodization in the perspective of potteriesThis section mainly study the potteries of Laohushan and Yuanzigou sites by typology analysis, divide them into different phases according to the evolution and development. Then compare the commonness of potteries of the two sites,in order to set up the culture periodization,Laohushan Culture should be divided into two phases and three sections.According to this periodization identify the remains which lack of stratum evidence of Xibaiyu,Mianpo,Bancheng and Damiaopo sites and make asummary of different pottery characteristics of each phase at last.Plain sandy jar is the most typical ware of Laohushan Culture, the main types are the plain sandy jar,rope-designed jar,long-necked jar,large-mouth urn, basin and straight-rampart urn.Jia tripod is one of the typical wares of this culture, but the number of Jia tripod is very little,so it can not represent the entire connotation of Laohushan Culture.Chapter 3:Discussion of relative issuesFirst discuss the relative date, comparing the remains of Laohushan Culture to the neighbouring Ashan Culture,Yongxingdian Culture in mid-south of Inner Mongolia area and the early phase of Xinghua Culture, early phase of Youyao remains,Baiyan Stage Ⅲremains in mid-north of Shanxi area, also include the Jiajiaying H3 remains in north of Hebei area,we make sure that Laohushan Culture is very different from the other remains, therefore we couldn’t expand the conception of Laohushan Culture. The site of Jiajiaying H3 has found the remains of plain sandy jar and basin,it might be a local type of later phases in this culture.Second, discuss the relationship between Laohushan Culture and the surrounding remains by comparison. Finally discuss the culture origin in combination with the environmental changes of Daihai Lake.Chapter 4:ConclusionThis section summarizes the main points of this paper, outlines the author’s understanding on Laohushan Culture.Laohushan Culture refers to the remains of Longshan period such as the plain sandy jar,rope-designed jar,long-necked jar and other potteries distributed nearby the Dahai Lake. The early phase is in the Miaodigou Stage Ⅱ Culture period in general, the later phase is closed to the early phase of Xinghua Culture and Baiyan Stage Ⅲ Culture of Jinzhong area, and a little earlier than the early phase of Youyao remains and Yongxingdian Culture.Later phase of Laohushan Culture had effect on the nearby remains by the territory and force expanded, but it was limited by environmental deterioration of Daihai lake aera, and Laohushan Culture suddenly disappeared in the end. |
