| With the communication between China and the world grows ever closer, the West shows a growing interest in China. A craze for learning Chinese language and Chinese culture is emerging. Lecture Room, as a program aims to introduce traditional culture to Chinese people, will definitely become a window for foreigners to understand Chinese culture if translated into English. The Great Forbidden City is an excellent lecture of the Lecture Room series, and plus its role as a carrier of Chinese culture, the interpreter therefore chooses the first two lectures of The Great Forbidden City for interpreting practice and tries to analyze the consecutive interpreting process as well as problems occurred with interpretation examples. And both the Chinese and English written materials follow behind this paper as an appendix.Introduction, main body and conclusion are three main parts of this paper. Its main contents are as follows:The first part is the introduction, which briefly analyzes the changes of translation in 21st century, the features of the Lecture Room series, and the social, cultural and economic significance of translating The Great Forbidden Palace lectures.The second part is the main body, which consists of four chapters.Chapter One describes the task, introduces the features of the Lecture Room series and The Great Forbidden City lecture, and also the reasons of choosing this part as the practice material.Chapter Two focuses on the preparation before the practice, including strategies choosing, plan making and quality control planning. It generally covering the thinking and preparation process, the author tries to create a situation as real as possible.Chapter Three records the process of this practice and the way to deal with emergencies.Chapter Four is core to this report, the author categorizes several types of problems and analyses some examples. Consecutive interpreting approach and other strategies are applied to solve problems, such as syntactic linear interpreting, shift of perspectives, background knowledge researching, adding and omission strategies as well as note-taking strategy. The author intends to reveal the applicability and application value of each strategy in solving consecutive interpreting problems.The last part is the conclusion, which summarizes the problems and problem-solving strategies that used in the practice, and also points out the deficiencies remained in the practice. Through interpreting The Great Forbidden City lectures, especially elaborating on the confusion, deliberation and solutions, hopefully this report could be a reference for interpreters and interpretation learner to train interpreting, and improve skills. |
