Studies On James Cameron’s Film Art

It is not only a kind of film phenomenon, but also an artistic and cultural phenomenon that James Cameron creates a legend in the film industry. As the artistic and cultural phenomenon, Cameron’s films are concerned with many hot issues of the moment, including the visual shock of the film and the performing depth of its artistic value, artistic development of the film and technology combining, artistic orientation of the film and commercial business colliding, etc. It is the film art of James Cameron as the study object in this thesis, and Cameron’s understanding of film, the cultural implication of his film and the characteristic of his creation, and the cultural meaning and effect of his film would be analyzed and discussed in order to deliberate the issues mentioned above.First of all, the opinion and standpoint of Cameron on film is explained. As a senior director in Hollywood film industry, Cameron takes his art expression in the similar mode, which includes the narrative mode of closed form in cause and effect relationship, the describing mode of character in distinguished good and evil, and setting mode of plot in main dramatic conflicts and love lines.Fourthly, the innovation and creation in Cameron’s film art expression is concluded. As an excellent executive of film artistic formation, Cameron is good at applying the new technological product into creating film art, and results in tremendous success in using creative technique of montage, making virtual reality image with computer graphic effect, and exhibiting audio-visual enjoyment by high technological method.Fifthly, cultural effect of Cameron’s film art is interpreted. Cameron creates Cameron Film, and also Cameron Film Culture. The cultural effects are showed in many aspects, for example, integration of film implication and formation effectively, which could be modeled in exploring the meaning of visual culture; combination of technology and image, which has developed the new era and space of artistic domain; win-win situation of profit and art, which has become an successive example of commercial operation in film art.Finally, Cameron’s film art is introspected. Although Cameron creates the miracle in the film industry, his films are actually commercialized production, while the art itself is opposite to the commercialization essentially. Therefore, Cameron’s film is the role model of commercial film, but not the developing direction of the future film. The development of film art should accept and learn Cameron and his films, and then exceed his achievement in the future eventually.
