Our country is power of cultural relics, whatever the type of cultural relics in the museum or not, they are experienced a excavated and the process of protection and restoration of late. If cultural relics want to keep information when excavated, it is important and critical for the extraction of the process. Extraction technology is very difficult of remains fragile in the field of cultural relics protection, it is a vital step about cultural relic protection and restoration of security. Unearthed relics faces a different environment when excavated, make relics be more worse. So, extraction method need to have a certain scientific, rigor, efficacy, and safety, can safely extracted from the sites of cultural relics from the underground, to ensure the safety of the cultural relics information integrity and quality of a material, not the more damage of cultural relics. Extraction method should be used by comprehensive consideration of cultural relics sites and the scene of the actual situation in archaeological site, this needs according to the field condition, choose the most reasonable and effective method.This paper is about menthol applied to the archaeological site, and deep research for menthol as a new type of solid materials.This paper is divided into five chapters, the first chapter is introduction, discussed the importance of cultural relics protection in archaeological site, concluded the background and significance of this study, summarized the basic requirements and principles about extracted materials in archaeological site. And introduce several common extraction technology, to review the research status, discussed the usage, mechanism of action and the advantages and disadvantages of gypsum, polyurethane foam, ring dodecane and menthol. According to the requirements and protection principle of materials for the protection of cultural relics, looking forward to a better new type of solid materials.The second chapter presents the background for No.1 pit of Qin shi huang mausoleum of hadrian, overview of unearthed cultural relics and monuments, summarized there are three times discovery, and it is currently in the third excavating, constantly unearthed a lot of terracotta figures and TaoMa, some keep intact, others are due to various reasons and disability. But compared to the more stable figurines and TaoMa, and other fragile sites excavated are more difficult. In order to ensure the progress of excavation, the unearthed fragile sites generally do not take landfill, because the soil below may also have more other cultural relics, so the extraction of fragile sites is a difficult and very meaningful task.The third chapter simulated soil sample protection research, unearthed from the no.1 pit ruins, some soil mixed with some wood chips. The contents of this chapter are for the production of analog two kinds of soil sample that mixed sawdust and not, applying menthol acts on the two kinds of different types of soil samples, using super depth of 3 d microscopic system test the role of soil sample surface and internal menthol, were observed before and after sublimation of menthol, whether the internal structure of soil sample have change. Results show that the permeability of menthol is not deep, with scattered distribution in soil samples internal pore, the deepest depth of no more than 5 mm.The fourth chapter simulation fragile relics unearthed from no.1 pit of coloured drawing or pattern layer and raw lacquer, through testing the colour change, microstructure and residue analysis, detected the safety of menthol was applied to extract in archaeological site. Experiments prove that menthol does not affect the fragile sites on the surface and structure, do not produce residues, influence of coloured drawing or pattern and raw lacquer chroma within 3.0 of allowable error.Fifth chapter in menthol safety studies, on the basis of practical application in the army, a pit T23G11:38 figurines of raw lacquer creasing and T23G11:0023 crossbow fragile sites and T23G8:0029 fragile sites in three places, did not occur in the process of rupture and collapse, successfully extracted to repair area.
