Although Transfer of Land Act 1958 Victoria Australia, promulgated in 1958, is still an important legal basis for Australian government to carry out land registration and transactions. The original text is firstly analyzed by Newmark’s text typology theory to make clear of its stylistic features. Guided by the theory of semantic translation, the translator takes the subjectivity to solve the translation problem of typical words and sentences in the text, also overruns the obstacles hampered by cultural difference, so that the target text as far as possible to reflect the stylistic features of legal texts in terms of vocabulary and syntax. This paper focus on the depth analysis on the translation of Transfer of Land Act 1958 Victoria Australia, with main points divided into four parts. The first chapter is a detailed description of the translation tasks including task background and its nature. The second chapter is concerned about the preparation work before translating the original text such as translation schedule planning and searching the reference book. The third chapter, the cases analysis, firstly clarifies the typical translation problems of the frequent vocabularies and sentences in the process of translation, then analyzes and solves the problems through the use of appropriate translation strategies for specific translation cases. The last part of the thesis is to summarize and think about the unresolved issues, so that it can be helpful for future translation work.Through this translation practice, the reporter proposes that if the translator wants to make translation text convey the legal messages to the uttermost, in addition to relying on the legal translation theories and skills to solve translation problems, it is necessary for translator to take initiative in comprehending different legal systems, legal institutions and legal cultures caused by different national condition and cultures.
