With the growing global influence of China, more and more foreigners are interested in Chinese culture including Chinese poetry. Tang poetry represents the highest peak in the development of Chinese poetry. Among the numerous excellent poets in Tang dynasty, Li Bai is famous for his poetic style, his poems are graceful, unrestrained, imaginative and full of romantic spirit.Excellent translation works cannot go further without the guidance of translation aesthetics theory. Although translation aesthetics has been a hot topic and focus for a long time, translating Chinese poetry from the perspective of translation aesthetics is still a new point of penetration. This paper reviews the history of translation aesthetics both in China and in the west, With Xu Yuanchong’s “Three Beauty Principle” as theoretical framework, the author takes extracts from more than thirty poems of Li Bai as examples, uses case study, comparative analysis, description-expansionary method during the study, and aims to explore the application of Xu Yuanchong’s“Three Beauty Principle” in the translation of Li Bai’s poems.According to the research, the beauties of the original poems are reproduced by applying “Three Beauty Principle” from the perspective of sense, sound and form respectively. The author concludes the beauty in sense amuses our hear, it is reproduced in image and artistic conception, style, figurative language and allusion;the beauty in sound amuses our ears, it is reproduced in rhythm, rhyme, onomatopoeia and reduplication; the beauty in form amuses our eyes, it is reproduced in verse pattern, repetition of words, sentence and sentence pattern, line length, parallelism in structure and omission. The translation of Chinese poetry into English is a bridge to transmit Chinese culture and exchange between Chinese culture and western culture, thus the study plays a certain role in transmitting and popularizing Chinese literature and culture. Besides, the comparison of different versions on the translation of Li Bai’s poems also helps translators to improve their appreciation ability and translation ability.
