This thesis discusses the preservation of the poems' aesthetic effects in translation with the aid of reception aesthetics theory and the corpus from two English versions of the Story of the Stone. As traditional poems are part of Chinese cultural treasure, the preservation of aesthetic effects in translation is of great importance in cultural communication. However, this has been a difficult problem in translation circle. Though some scholars have discussed this problem, few studies have been from the angle of the target readers' reception. This essay attempts to solve the problem of preserving the aesthetic effects of Chinese poems in translation and keep the target texts acceptable to the target language readers from the aspects of beauty of verses, form, sense and flavor.
