| According to the situation of children’s English teaching in our country, the most suitable teaching approaches should be compliance with children’s psychological features. Those teaching approaches should help children’s English learning and their physical and psychological development. On the basis of Total Physical Response(TPR)approach, the author aims to find out how the TPR approach affects children’s listening and speaking ability; how the TPR approach helps children keep a better memory of the knowledge; and how the TPR approach arouses children’s interests of English learning. Both quantitative method and empirical research method are used in this thesis in order to answer above questions. This thesis is based on two classes of a training school in Taiyuan. Children of the two classes share the same English learning experience and English level. By conducting teaching experiment, questionnaires, interviews, and tests, the author compares and analyzes the results of listening ability, speaking ability, and observing and writing ability between the two groups separately taught with the TPR approach and the traditional approach. This teaching experiment lasts for four months. After analyzing the data collected in this experiment, the following results have been obtained:1. The TPR approach is better in promoting children’s listening ability and speaking ability than the traditional approach.2. Different from the traditional approach, the TPR approach is more efficient in helping children keep the learned knowledge in their memories.3. With the TPR approach, the children tend to be more active and have more interests in the class. After introducing the TPR approach theory and the teaching experiment of comparison between the analysis results of the two different teaching approaches in detail, the obtained results can be of great importance in teaching children English. Moreover, this research can help teachers choose TPR approach and apply it inchildren’s English teaching and learning more efficiently. |
