"Crusades" is a protracted external war happened in the history of Western Europe in the Middle Ages, which lasts for as long as nearly two centuries. At that time, European feudal nobles, members of the clergy, knights, farmers, citizens and the serfs and different social classes, under the temptation of the Pope’s retaking "the graveyard of the Lord",had been vying for a long time with the Middle East Muslim who occupied the new moon in Jerusalem. In the military operation which is great in strength and impetus, the Byzantine Empire occupies a very important role. However, in Eleventh Century, after the collapse of the Byzantine Theme, the strength of Byzantine Empire rapidly decline, unable to cope with the invasion from the east. In order to pull its dead time, the empire had to turn to the Church of Rome for help from Western Europe. Thus, from the late eleventh Century to the early thirteenth Century, there was a close relationship between the crusades and the Byzantine, which influenced the historical trend of the two sides. However, throughout the later history we can find the Byzantine distress not only triggers the Crusades, but also cause a strong impact to the eastern part of the Mediterranean world, and have a impact on the historical development of these regions of the countries and the nations, and even lead to the demise of the Byzantine.
