The Study Of Catholic Literature Of The Yishi Newspaper From 1915 To 1935

The Yishi Newspaper was founded by Belgian Catholic priest Leimingyuan. It promoted and practiced the religious literature consciously, being important to help establishing public faith, remodeling the ethics. It has a special contribution on religious literature, which other newspapers do not have. Currently academic research focused on the impact of religion on modern literature, but few studies on religious literature itself. This article is limited the two decades after founded as a period, carding the Catholic literature’s development process of Yishi Newspaper, analyzing the Catholic literature’s characteristics at each period, from social functions to common belief, to the religious connotation, and later religious color declined and beyond. In order to get the significance of Yishi Newspaper to modern religious literature and even the modern literary, this article is intended to delicately summarize the achievements on translation and writing of Catholic literature on poetry, fiction, drama and other literary style, dig the contribution made by the important writers and supplements, columns, generalize the features and shortcomings of Catholic literature on the Yishi Newspaper. The newspaper is rich in Catholic literature, laying the foundation for the emergence and development of Catholic literature, filling the Catholic literary blank, enrich the connotation of modern literature, which greatly promoted the dissemination of Catholicism in Tianjin and even in North China. It was a fertile ground for outstanding Chinese modern writers and religious scholars, left for a series of classical articles. This paper will cross both literature and religion subjects, to dig the Yishi Newspaper’s characteristics of Catholic literature and enrich the literature study on the Yishi Newspaper.
