Guangdong province is bordered by the South China, which inputs western culture the earliest. Because the opening of Shantou port in 1858, Chaoshan area has become a new window in southern China. The great impact of western culture and civilization led to the disintegration of the traditional society order. By receiving new education, intellectuals went up on the historical stage and Qian Rechu was just one of historical figures living in this period.Qian Rechu(1881-1938),who was born in Dabu. On the eve of the 1911 revolution, he joined the Chinese Revolutionary League and promoted the idea of anti-republic. In 1910, he founded "Yingzhou daily" to advocate revolution and worked as the president. Then he returned his hometown and engaged in education. Between 1919 and 1926, Mr Qian lived in Shantou, and founded "Ping daily" with colleagues. During the period of the national revolution, he was trapped in the complex political situation about sending confront. In 1927, the newspaper restarted, he became the founder of "Fun News" and served "Shantou Daily" as an editor. His articles were published frequently. In the late 1920 s, he paid more attention to the Chaoshan culture and social constructions. He was entrusted codification "Chaoshan Railway Quarterly". He also showed great enthusiasm towards Waijiang opera and joined the largest Waijiang opera club. He was responsible for editing and publishing the music drama journal, No. 12. He was skilled in music and studied on the play. In 1933, Qian Rechu wrote a book called "The Outline of Han Opera", which had improved the level of Waijiang opera and schematically discussed the origins of drama, script, artists, singing, stage and so on. Due to the diabetes, Mr Qian returned to Dabu in 1934 and took part in compiling local records with Weng Tingjing. He died in 1938.The thesis is generally organized by Qian Rechu’s main events in life. Through investigating his different life stages under the social environmental framework, we can explore relationships between Qian Rechu and Chao Shan social thoughts in 1920 s and 1930 s. Chaoshan area is far away from the central government, whose popularity and geographical advantage is inferior to the provincial government, however, its social activities and ideological movements do not stagnate. We can find that Qian Rechu has different ideas at different time which is highly correlated with ChaoShan social ideological trends such as revolutionary thought, education for national salvation thought, socialist ideas, reactionary thoughts, industrial trends and so on. In the complexly society, Qian Rechu was changing his ideas with reconsideration and adjustments. I hope to make an impersonal comment on Qian Rechu and sift the true from the false through the analysis of the firsthand material.
