A Study Of Charity In Chaoshan Area In The Late Qing Dynasty

In the late Qing Dynasty,the society of Chaoshan is complex and Multiple natural disasters,but economic foundation has been strengthened,so charity should flourish and with typical regional color.At the same time,under the period of transition from traditional to modern in late Qing Dynasty,the traditional philanthropic thought still occupy the dominant position,and modern thought began to enter the Chaoshan,so Chaoshan charity is the traditional and modern coexist.At present,the academia has no systematic and comprehensive research results about the philanthropy in Chaoshan area in the late Qing Dynasty,this paper study the Chaoshan charity from background,research contents and influence,in order to be helpful in promoting regional charity field.This paper consists of five chapters.The introduction part mainly outlines the causes and significance of topics,research trends,the definition of related concepts,research ideas,innovations and shortages.The first chapter is analyzes the development background of charity in the Chaoshan area in the late Qing Dynasty.To regional social background and charitable thought inheritance as the main line,from the location factors,social unrest,economic factors,cultural factors and etc,It is carefully analyzed the conditions of the charity application development in the late Qing Dynasty in Chaoshan.The second and the three chapter mainly introduces the two major parts of Chaoshan charity: local Charitable group(Shanhui and Shantang)and outside the church charity.On the one hand,understanding the events of the local traditional charities from the charitable group founded and operation,on the other hand,Combing the church charity in Chaoshan area from three the level of the medical charity and charitable relief and charity education,in an attempt to outline the whole development in the late Qing Dynasty in Chaoshan charity.The fourth chapter is analyzes the links of the local charity(charitable group)and the foreign charity(church charity)and the both how to support the Chaoshan charity in the late Qing Dynasty.It is trying to reflect the connection of the local charity and the foreign charity from the three aspects of "coexistence","competition","cooperation".The fifth chapter analyzes the characteristics and influence of the late Qing Dynasty in Chaoshan charity.Summarizes the three regional characteristics in the late Qing Dynasty in Chaoshan charity,including charity shared by the people and the government,local charities and the foreign charity cooperate to bring out the best in each other and the people of Chaoshan who Long time working or living in overseas contributions to charity.At the same time,it also described the influence of charity to chaoshan society organizations at the grass-roots level,economic,education and the people of Chaoshan who long time working or living in overseas.The conclusion part of this paper makes an overall assessment of the charity in the late Qing Dynasty in Chaoshan area.The author thinks that the purpose of charity is "in view of this ancient",promote the healthy and orderly development of contemporary philanthropy.Based on this,the author puts forward some thoughts on the development of charity,that the development of contemporary charity must draw nutrients from the tradition and keep pace with the times,leading the charity should be the civil power,The government macroeconomic regulation and control,and play an important role in economic support,policy encouragement,cultural propaganda and so on.Only do this,charity can be beneficial to the people,good for the country.
