Research On The Imageries Of "You Are On The Highland"

Zhang Wei is a famous Chinese contemporary writer who has published more than one thousand and three hundreds words, enjoying a high reputation in domestic and international literature. The novel, "You are on the highland", taken twenty years time to write, is called by the writer himself "a book of long walking". Meanwhile, it has won many awards since publication. The novel was published only 6 years ago, and the whole novel has more than 4,500,000 words, it will take a lot of energy to read through. As a result, the study of the novel "You are on the highland" is not so completed. The existing research results of the novel are mostly treat one or several parts of the entire novel as the research objects, or only treat as a certain imagery as the research object, but not the entire novel. This paper makes the entire novel as the research object, and selects several representative imageries to explain their meanings, existing value. At last, the writer of the paper excavates the aesthetic value and investigates the contemporary significance of these imageries.This paper is divided into the following four parts:The first part is about the exploration of "imagery". In this chapter, the writer starts with the discussion of "imagery" in history, and then combs the concept of "imagery" and the development of "imagery" in the research field. This is designed to lead to the discussion of the imagery in Zhang Wei’s literature production "You are on the highland". Mr. Wang YuXiong’s classification of aesthetic imagery is appeared in this chapter, as the theoretical support of this paper.The second part is the study of perceptive imagery. This chapter is divided into three parts:"dissolution into the wild field", "Plain is underfoot, plateau is in the distance", and "the family". These opposite two imagery "oak road" and "vineyard" is stand for city and country, evil dirty and pure natural. The contrast study of the two imageries is to show the contradiction of the urban and rural development in the novel "You are on the highland". "Plain" and "Mountain" are underfoot, they symbolize our present life; on the other hand, "Plateau" is far away from people, it symbolizes the exploration of the unknown world. Besides, the "Spirit of plateau" is put forward in this chapter. This paper divides the "family" into "the revolutionaries" and "the intellectuals". Whether "the revolutionaries", or "the intellectuals", they both include the honest people and the black horse.The third part is the study of imaginative imagery. It divided into two sections. The first part is the research of the imagery "Love", considering "love" can be split up into "love for Heterosexual", "love for friends", "love for parents". The second part is the research for "Walk", considering "Walk" means "escape", the escape of the current life and the future.The last part is the aesthetic value and meaning and of the imagery in "You are on the highland". The writer investigates the imageries’ aesthetic value first, and then point out the guidance value in for people in real life that the imagery existed in the novel.Finally is the conclusion, it summarized the whole text.
