In the early period of Western Zhou Dynasty, which bronze inscriptions not only followed the traditional style of late Shang Dynasty, but also kept creating its new style, was in a period of changing regime, and constructing its unique characteristics of the times. A great number of research and studies on the bronze inscriptions of early Western Zhou Dynasty have been made in academic areas. Based on the previous studies, the thesis has analyzed the characteristics of the inscriptions on the bronze inscriptions of early Western Zhou Dynasty and has made the discussion on the relevant historical culture.The thesis consists of four chapters.The first chapter makes a brief introduction of the purpose and meaning of the research, review of the research, research approaches and methods as well as the relevant definitions.In the second chapter, the development of bronze inscriptions of early Western Zhou Dynasty has been analyzed from the aspects of bronze inscription’ functions and styles in different periods. First the inscriptions work of bronze inscriptions and functions have been analyzed and then the development of bronze inscriptions from Wu king to Zhao king has been analyzed and divided into two periods. The first period, from Wu king to early Kang king, is called transitional period; and the second period, from late Kang king to Zhao king, is considered as turning period.The third chapter has analyzed the practical characteristics of bronze inscriptions in early Western Zhou Dynasty from the application of brush and knife, structures and composition and concludes their practical characteristics and developing rules.In the fourth chapter, the formation reasons for the characteristics of bronze inscriptions in early Western Zhou Dynasty and the historical influence of bronze inscriptions have been explored. First, the factors that had made the bronze inscriptions in early Western Zhou Dynasty followed the style of late Shang Dynasty have been analyzed and concluded; in addition, the factors that had led bronze inscriptions in early Western Zhou Dynasty to develop in a creative way as well as thehistorical influence have also been discussed.In the conclusion part, a summary has been made according to the previous parts and some suggestions are presented for the amateurs and writers of inscriptions on bronze objects.
