This thesis selects Professor Hu Gengshen’s eco-translatology as the theoretical guidance to explore how linguistic-dimensional transformation, cultural-dimensional transformation, and communicative-dimensional transformation are realized in Gong Zhicheng’s translated version of Lord of the Flies. Because of important literary position of this novel and the popularity of Gong’s translated version, Gong’s version of lord of the Flies is chosen as the research object of this study. Eco-translatology can be interpreted as translation studies from the perspective of ecology, or an ecological approach to translation studies. As an interdisciplinary theory of ecology and translatology, eco-tranlatology has opened a new perspective in translation research. Three-dimensional transformation is the translation method in eco-translatology, including linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensional transformations, which requires translators to pay attention to the transformation of language forms, the transmission and interpretation of cultural connotation of source and target languages and the realization of bilingual communicative intention.Scholars at home and abroad study Lord of the flies mainly from the perspectives of literature, such as eco-criticism, feminism, the theme of human evil and symbolism. Few of them study Gong Zhi cheng’s version, not to mention from the perspective of eco-translatology. Therefore, from the perspective of eco-translatology, this study focuses on the study of Gong Zhi cheng’s version of Lord of the flies to explore how linguistic-dimensional transformation, cultural-dimensional transformation and communicative-dimensional transformation are realized in Gong’s version. This study mainly conducts qualitative research, and it studies Gong Zhicheng’s translation of Lord of the Flies from linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions through case study to solve the research questions. Linguistic-dimensional transformation is realized through the translator’s using of words, phrases, sentences, rhetorical devices and so on. The translator transforms children’s language, dialect, syntactic structure and rhetoric devices in the original text to let the target readers understand the communicative intention of the original text. Cultural-dimensional transformation is realized through the transformation of similarities and differences between Chinese and foreign religious culture, social culture and political culture. Communicative-dimensional transformation is realized through communication between the translator and the author, the target reader, the publisher, the language ecosystem and cultural ecosystem, to achieve the communicative intention of original text.Through the analysis, it can be concluded that whether to transform the language form, or to transmit and interpret the connotation of bilingual culture, the purpose is to realize the communicative intentions of the source text. The three dimensions are inseparable and unified. The study shows that the eco-translatology provides a new perspective for the study of Lord of the Flies and Gong’s translation, and it deepens future scholars’understanding of eco-translatology.
