A Preliminary Test Of Mortality Salience Effects And Moderating Effect Of Human Relationship On Mortality Salience Effects

Mortality salience effects is an important issues of terror management theory (TMT), refers to a series of changes of the individual’s attitudes, behavior or emotions, such as cultural world-view persistence or self-esteem seek after mortality salience. The domestic and foreign researches shows that mortality salience effects mainly includes the phenomenon like world-view defense or self-esteem striving etc. The latest research also adds the pursuit of intimacy, nostalgia, the preference to repopulation and so on. The thesis selects "familism" and "human relationship", two core contents of national character traits, verifies morality salience effects and the adjustment on morality salience effects under Chinese cultural background, expands the contents of influencing factors of morality salience effects and probes into the reasons and functions of "familism" and "human relationship", which provide the research on Chinese national characteristics with thoughts and basis.Research 1 selects the view of "familism" as the content of worldview defense under Chinese cultural background and carries out a preliminary validation on morality salience effects. Research 2 probes into the influences of the different relationships upon morality salience effects with scenario approach. Research 3 takes laboratory manipulations on emotions of different relationships with the method of recall and probes into the adjustment functions of recalls of the emotions of different relationships on morality salience effects under laboratory situations. Conclusions of present thesis:1. There exist morality salience effects in Chinese subjects and the emergences of morality salience effects needs delay manipulation.2. Human relationship can affect the morality salience effects of Chinese people., and different relationships have opposite influences on morality salience effects. In affective feature relationships subjects, the average worldview defense levels of the subjects who under the morality salience conditions are much lower than subjects under neutral control conditions (P<0.017), while in tool feature relationship subjects, the average worldview defense levels of the subjects who under the morality salience conditions are much higher than subjects under neutral control conditions(P<0.05).3. The recalls of the emotions of different relationships adjust morality salience effects. The worldview defense levels of morality recall subjects, after recalling the affective feature relationships of subjects, are significantly lower than that of tool feature relationship recalls (P=0.000).,while there is no significant difference in neutral control subjects(P<0.114).
