In the studies related with semantic roles, place /put verb attract much concern especially for their own semantic features. Academic circles have had the case study results of semantic role about the verb “Fang” and “Gua”. However, the verb “tie” was only seldom referred as a place/put verb or attached verb in related works. Only when we select the appropriate scope of research according to the meanings of the verbs and carry out the case analysis in language reality could we have a new understanding to a certain verb. So this paper is a corpus-based study that uses the semantic role and the related theories, focusing on the two meanings of the verb “tie”(“tie1” and “tie2”), discussing the types of semantic roles and coordination of it within the sentences. We must firstly determine the types of semantic roles while studying the semantic roles of verb “tie”.This paper consult previous definition and description on classifying semantic role, being based on the actual corpus, drawing lessons from the Yuan Yulin’s view, distinguishing individual semantic roles, properly. Meanings are different, so do the semantic roles of verb and their rendering sentence model. The point of this paper is to analyze the semantic role and sentence model of verb “tie”. Based on the practical association that the verb “tie1” makes among the corpus, the thesis summarizes 12 kinds of semantic roles of “tie1”, and analyzes the statistical data from four aspects, respectively the definition and classification, the position relationship with the verb, the formal markers, the number and the proportion of the verb. Then, 74 sentence patterns are summed up after the classification of the coordination(sentence model). And lastly,5 basic sentence models are figured out according to the statistical results. Meanwhile the difference with Yuan Yulin’s 6 kinds of basic models of coordination are also found. Then the Conclusion could be made that the most frequently appeared three semantic roles within the verb“tie1” are respectively agent, patient, goal, and comparatively, the semantic role instrument is not so important. The second is the analysis of the semantic role of “tie2” and the sentence model. According to the practical association that the verb “tie2” makes among the corpus, the thesis summarizes ten semantic roles of “tie2”, and analyzes the statistical data from four aspects, respectively the definition and classification, the position relationship with the verbs, the formal markers, the number and the proportion of the verb. Then, 26 sentence patterns are summed up after the classification of the coordination(sentence model). And at the same time the analysis about the co-occurrence rules and limits of its semantic roles are carried out.The last is discrimination about “tie1” and “tie2”. The similarities and differences of the two verbs are concluded and described by contrasting and investigating the relevant types of semantic roles, co-occurrence of semantic roles, and semantic role distribution of the two verbs.Afterwards, the reason why there shows the differences semantic roles and appearing position will be clarified from the aspects of semantics, syntax and pragmatics.Which is also consistent with that this paper determines to study the semantic role of verb “tie” within the clause scope.
