Pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar are three crucial factors of language, while vocabulary, as the important component of language, is to be reckoned with. As Mr. HuangBorong and Mr. LiaoXudong said in the Modern Chinese, vocabulary is the constructional material of language, buildings cannot be built without the constructional material and sentences cannot be made up without the vocabulary. Language consists of numerous of words which are matched with certain grammatical rules and communicates by the sentences which are made up of those words. Therefore, words play an essential role in language, and as an important part of vocabulary, mythological vocabulary has a long history and has different meanings with the passage of time, consequently, it has become an obstacle during the communication. In this thesis, the author makes comparison and analysis on the similarities and differences of Chinese and English mythological vocabularies based on the relevant theories of the contrastive linguistics, and explores the metaphorical meaning, cultural connotation mythological vocabularies, in order to contribute further to the improvement of teaching Chinese as a second language. |
