An Exploration On The Mini-fiction Translation Skills Of Zhang Baihua

Mini-fiction, also called mini-story or micro-fiction, is the shortest one in length and minimum in capacity among various literature styles. Though short in length, it caters to the tendency of the high pace and efficiency, and therefore is increasingly admired by modern people. Seen from the origin and development of mini-fiction in China, it has two traces, the translated and the domestic one which is based on assimilation and recreation. The translated mini-fiction, with its short style and profound meaning, turns to be common or grass-rooted either in themes or subject matters. Together with the original creative ones, the translated mini-fiction has become a popular literary form of mental nourishment.As one of the pioneers in translating foreign mini-fiction, Zhang Baihua develops her unique way in translation skills and displays a kind of refreshing written style and far-reaching conception, which are deeply loved and praised by readers.Taken the translated Chinese version The Early Fall by Zhang Baihua as a sample, combined with the analysis between the bilingual texts, this thesis aims at exploring the translating skills and strategies which Zhang adopts, and discussing the adaptability of translation practice in her mini-fictions.It concludes that Zhang Baihua’s mini-fictions faithfully disclose the original contents through her translating skills and strategies. The target language is highly close to the source one both in style and requirment, which makes the fictions readable and appealing in the circle of literary translation. Yet, the translation skills have limitations with regard to application.
