A Study On The Chinese-English Translation Of Mongolian Medical Terminology

Mongolian medicine is not only considered as the medicine of the minority, but it is one of the four medicine systems in the ethnic regions of China. Under the influence and the guideline of the unique system of Mongolian philosophy and its dialectics, with hundreds of years of medical practice, Mongolian medicine has gradually formed and developed as a medical system. Meanwhile, people benefit a lot from the medical system. Recently, with the enhancement of the economic and cultural communications between China and western countries, the Mongolian medicine draws great attention among foreign experts. Its translation work is gradually taken seriously. However, with the development of the translation on Mongolian medicine names, a great number of problems related to it appear frequently. Obviously, the problems on spreading Mongolian letters and its masterpieces, to some extent, hinder its development, and some confusions are caused by the translators with the different cultural backgrounds, and research fields and translating theories and methods. It is difficult to form an united system of translation principle, strategies and the methods, specifically to the English translation of Mongolian medicine terms.Based on a representative number of Mongolian medicine terminologies, the author analyses its translation strategies and methods under the guideline of the theory of cultural interpretation. First of all, the author refines the appropriate methods on the translation of Mongolian medicine terminologies by studying and summarizing the frameworks of Mongolian medicine terminologies and the specific translation strategies and methods of medicine English. Secondly, the author summarizes a set of terminological translation principles, according to some valuable experiences of some predecessors who study the Mongolian medicine translation. In addition, the thesis will try to help to compile the dictionaries and to normalize the translation of the Mongolian medicine online. Finally, the thesis shows the summary of the research. The conclusion is that the terminologies of the Mongolian Medicine should be summarized its translating strategies, methods, and principles in order to avoid the confusions.
