Vocabulary teaching is of vital importance in cultivating students’ abilities of comprehension and expression in second language teaching. We can learn if a student’s Chinese is good or poor directly from the number of vocabulary he or she has mastered. In Chinese vocabulary system, transitional conjunctions s which are a major part of conjunctive conjunctions have an important impact on the presentation and communication skills of foreign students. Current researches are mostly carried out around vocabulary itself with little association with teaching materials and HSK. The paper will systematically count and analyze the transitional conjunctions in teaching Chinese as a second language textbooks and in HSK tests to ultimately put forward the compiling strategies of transitional conjunctions in textbooks and HSK tests.Textbooks which are used by teachers for teaching and by students for learning play a very important role in teaching activities. HSK is a significant test by which foreign students and students who are studying Chinese as a second language all over the world can acquire a certificate demonstrating their Chinese levels. With an increasing number of foreign students studying Chinese as a second language, HSK is without a doubt in the center of Chinese teaching cause. High-quality textbooks and HSK exam questions will contribute to teaching qualities and discipline construction. The paper chooses transitional conjunctions in teaching Chinese as a second language textbooks as the research object. It aims to carry out a systematic research on transitional conjunctions by firstly defining and classifying them and then analyzing in depth the specific use and distribution features of proper nouns in textbooks. The paper refers to Chinese Tutorial and Developing Chinese as its main corpus sources, studies the Chinese characters and vocabulary in the two textbooks, lists the contexts in which transitional conjunctions are used in the two textbooks and HSK tests and compares those in the textbooks with the new HSK level syllabus to find out what’s in the textbooks and HSK tests so as to propose suggestions of improvement and provide reference for the compiling of teaching Chinese as a second language textbooks and HSK exam questions. In the end, I will give my own opinions about the formulation of HSK syllabus and the compiling of teaching Chinese as a second language textbooks and HSK exam questions.
