Translating legal texts is a complex issue covering linguistics, law and translation. To translate word for word may result in serious miscommunication, as each word should be explained in its proper legal context. Legal translation depends on semantics while context-sensitivity words with more than one meaning must be disambiguated according to their context.Based on the translation of one chapter in Law 101:Everything You Need to Know About the American Legal System, this thesis aims to present a methodological model based on context classification that can be used for translating legal texts. The linguistic context is classified as phrase, sentence and discourse contexts to find equivalents to convey the correct meaning. The extra-linguistic context which includes legal regulations, theory and culture contexts can be exploited to capture the semantic accuracy and acquire adequate translation by analyzing semantic within legal framework to retain the characteristics of legal language and convey exact meaning of the source text.
