China has a huge number of stone culture relics, and most of them are placed in the field of environment. Due to the natural environment and human factors, These are confronted with varying degrees of damage. To avoid this should be undertaken effective measures. The study of high-performance material heritage conservation is an important task in conservating these valuable stone culture relics. Sticky rice-lime mortar is one of the major inventions in ancient China, and it is one of the most widely used gel material in ancient China. Recent studies have confirmed that the quality of materials and traditional stone heritage has a very good compatibility. Recording these studies, This paper carried out some research on Chinese traditional sticky rice-lime mortar.This paper briefly outlines the application and development on ancient and modern lime-based cementitious materials. It focuses on Chinese sticky rice-lime mortar and current research status. As the goal to protect the stone culture relics, we expand the study of Chinese traditional sticky rice-lime mortar and investigate the effect of cracking fiber and protein additives on the Chinese traditional sticky rice-lime mortar. The main contents include the following:By Qing’an Dam mortar hardness testing laboratory, Coomassie blue detection experiments, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). in conjunction with the relevant literature, the results showed that the average hardness value of Qing’an Dam is much larger than blank sample and the average higher than 42%, It is indicating that Qing’an Dam mortar having good physical properties; Qing’an Dam mortar contains protein substances, combined with investigations, Qing’an Dam mortar protein may be derived from the ancient in the preparation of mortars by adding soya bean milk; the infrared spectra show:Qing’an Dam mortar contains large amounts of calcite, which is due to carbide lime to absorb carbon dioxide in the air, Spectrum corresponding sugars derived from the starch in sticky rice, silicon dioxide is derived from clay mortar additives; It also can be inferred that the concentration of sticky rice liquid is less than 2%, By contrast, the concentration of sticky rice juice of Qing’an Dam using low, which reflected from the side that in the years of Guangxu emperor reign the use of sticky rice is comparison constraints; X-ray diffraction analysis showed that:Qing’an Dam mortar samples contain large amounts of calcite and silicon dioxide, it is similar to the infrared spectroscopy. In addition, the diffraction peaks of aragonite found in Qing’an Dam samples. Aragonite is the main component of shells, This is a better performance calcium carbonate crystals, Which explains Qing’an Dam mortar better mechanical properties.On the basis of Qing’an Dam mortar research, this paper will show another way in that to add some protein and fiber cracking additives to traditional Chinese sticky rice mortar. The results are as followed:The influence of admixtures (soybean milk, egg white, duck blood) on properties of traditional sticky rice-lime mortar and their scientific mechanismas are discussed by means of SEM, XRD. The results showed that:these materias are effective admixture to increase their hardness, compressive strength, freezing-thaw resistance and bending strength of sticky rice-lime mortar significantly. Among the three different admixtures sticky rice-lime mortar, the egg white - sticky rice mortar best overall performance, the compressive property and bendingl strength is 2.548MPa and 0.390MPa in the 60d, compared with the blank sample were improved 73.69% and 63.18%; its 60d hardness up 62.0 HD, compared with the blank enhance 29.17%. Impervious to water and freeze-thaw resistance also increased by 13% and 133.3%. Cultural heritage protection in practice, it is recommended to use 4.5% of egg - sticky rice-lime mortar. Egg white rice mortar good performance from the formation of aragonite crystal form calcium carbonate.The influence of admixtures (paper fiber, flax fiber, polypropylene) on properties of traditional sticky rice-lime mortar and their scientific mechanismas are discussed by means of SEM, XRD. Results indicate that these materias are effective admixture to increase their hardness, compressive strength, freezing-thaw resistance and bending strength of sticky rice-lime mortar significantly. Among the three different admixtures sticky rice-lime mortar, the paper fiber sticky rice-lime mortar is the best. Compared with pure sticky rice-lime mortar, the compressive strength and bending strength of paper fiber sticky rice-lime mortar are 2.683 Mpa and 0.595Mpa on 60d respectively, increase by 124.3% and 148.8% respectively; the freeze-thaw resistance increase by more than 150%. It is suggested that the 1.5% paper fiber sticky rice-lime mortar can be added as the additive for conservation of historical masonry buildings. The good mechanical property of admixtures sticky rice-lime mortar, which coubld be explained by the deepening of carbonation depth and the role of anti-crack fiber function as tie-reinforcement and supportive frame.
