On The Idea Of "Upward Life" Of Liang Shu-ming

The idea of "Upward Life" proposed by Liang Shuming is so meaningful. As the important component of Liang Shuming’s core concept of "reason", The idea of "Upward Life" indicates clear value goals. While Liang Shuming had not established a well-developed system for his idea of "Upward Life", seeing from his early and later works, we would know that Liang Shuming had been consistent in the meaning of all his ideas and his ideas were enriched in terms of connotation by means of unceasing accumulation. Employing the method of hermeneutics, the thesis will try to open a philosophical dialogue among texts. With a retrospection of the theoretical resources my thesis will try to clarify the composition of the concept of "Upward Life" considering the researching attitude of Liang as a whole.Liang Shuming had been concerning about two issues in his lifetime, one is "the issue of life" and the other is "the issue of China". The idea of "Upward Life" from Liang Shuming takes a key role in these two issues. As for the "issue of life", Liang Shuming had been searching for a "reasonable life" and what man one should become is the precondition of living this life.The ideal personality brings the value goals of positive outlook on life together. On the one hand, Liang Shuming believed that "Upward Life" provides a possibility for the establishment of ideal personality. On the other hand, "Upward Life" is a key part of establishing ideal personality. As for the exploration of the "issue of China", Liang Shuming set the foothold in rural construction. As a modern confucianist that knew and acted uniformly, Liang Shuming had perfectly performed the idea of "Upward Life" no matter in his growth or the rural construction. As a man in question, Liang Shuming had made discoveries and improved his theory by facing various real-life question,achieve the value goals of positive outlook on life in practice.
