The Soviet Union was once a superpower. China has been an important country. The development of Sino-Soviet relations has played a key role in the development of the world, especially in the development of the Asia-Pacific region. To compete for world hegemony, America is bound to take corresponding measures to make the development of Sino-Soviet relations conform to American interests. American factors played a crucial role in the development of the two countries during the Soviet period. This paper mainly discusses the influence of the role of American factors in the Gorbachev years.Although in 1949, the two countries established a military alliance. But there were many contradictions within the alliance. These differences were growing, and the relationship between the two countries gradually got worse. In the end of the 60’s, the two countries were trapped in a war. Since then, the two countries had entered the "quasi state of war"". In the 80’s, although the relationship between the two countries got better, but there was not a substantial progress. Therefore, the important mission for Gorbachev was that how he promoted the development of Sino-Soviet relations. In the Gorbachev years, China and the Soviet Union realized the normalization of relations between the two states. They established a new framework and promoted cooperation and development. During the period, the relationship between America and the Soviet Union had a huge change.lt could be divided into two stages. The former stage was the period of American-Soviet detente. To change the "external expansion" of the Brezhnev period, the implementation of the "new thinking" policy was to moderate the relationship between America and the Soviet Union. In the latter stage, America and the Soviet Union cooperated. The reformation of the Soviet Union encountered a series of problems, and Gorbachev began to seek cooperation with America, hoping to introduce technology and to obtain loans to solve the crisis faced by the Soviet Union. While America took the opportunity to carry out "peaceful evolution" policy, forcing the Soviet Union to climb down. Eventually, the Soviet Union gradually changed the nature of socialism and disintegrated. During this period, Sino-U. S. relations had got worse, but later began to rise gradually.Gorbachev emphasized the improvement of Sino-Soviet relations as soon as he came into power. But he didn’t visit China until 1989. Since then, the relation between the two countries had not made a significant progress. American factors played an important role.On the one hand, American factors did good to the improvement of Sino-Soviet relations. Due to American factors, the Soviet Union had enormous difficulties. And Gorbachev had to change the foreign policy and adopt the policy of "new thinking", thus promoted the development of the relationship between China and the Soviet Union. This was mainly reflected in the elimination of the "three obstacles". On the other hand, American factors mainly hindered the improvement of Sino-Soviet relations. This was mainly manifested in the drastic changes in Eastern Europe. Due to the pressure that came from America, Gorbachev did not take corresponding measures. The drastic changes in Eastern Europe had an important effect on the Soviet Union because it increased the domestic and international crisis in the Soviet Union. So Gorbachev had to pay more attention to the improvement of relations between America and the Soviet Union, ignoring the development of Sino-Soviet relations. During the period, Gorbachev regarded the relationship between America and the Soviet Union as the core of his foreign policy. In the Gorbachev years, while American factors played a positive role in the improvement of Sino-Soviet relations, its main influence was to hinder the development of Sino-Soviet relations, especially after Sino-Soviet relations realized normalization.
