The First World War is a worldwide war which has huge affection during the modern history. It not only changes the international political and economic patterns but also give us deep inspiration on political、economy、culture、military and many other areas. The First World War influenced China so much. Since the beginning of the war to the country involved in the battle, Chinese government、patriotic personages and press circles paid close attention on it. World WarⅠaccelerated a new awakening of Chinese nation. After First Opium War Britain’s invasion of China, the concept of nationalism was deeply rooted among the people. World WarⅠpromoted the national liberation movement worldwide, wined over advantage conditions for oppressed countries and promoted nationalism in China during the May 4th Movement in modern history and awakening of nationalism of Chinese people.Since the war begins, Chinese government made lots of endeavor to safeguard national interest, the government maintained neutrality in the beginning and requested join in the war twice afterwards, hence it putted forward the policy to send 1.4 million workers instead of soldiers to the battlefield, which made profound contribution to the victory of the Entente countries. These workers had high patriotic enthusiasm and consciousness they became the fundamental strength of the May 4th movement. Movement against Twenty-One Demands awaked national consciousness of Chinese people. Workers、students、patriotic industrialists and businessmen became new strength of national liberation. During the battle and before China failed the Paris Peace Conference, Chinese people maintained a hopeful outlook of national rejuvenation, but that hope was dashed in the end. The western countries were caught in pessimism、chaos and confusion after the war. Chinese people made criticism and reflection on western culture, native magazines made a lot of presses about the war, native scholars such as Liang QiChao and Liang Su Ming had new opinions about the western culture which had great influence in China. After the war, worldwide National Self-determination trend spread in China and the National Self-determination which was promoted by Lenin and President Wilson accelerated the national liberation consciousness. The October Revolution 1917 and a massive industrial working class and the New Culture Movement provided mass base and theoretical support for the prevalent of socialist ideological trend and Marxism-Leninism. The First World War promoted Chinese awakening and worldwide nationalism as well. The nationalism movements happened in Asian、African and Latin countries violently shaken colonial rule of imperialist states and made them decline ever since.
