Nanyuan Qian, who is known for good at poetry, calligraphy, Chinese painting, and moral quality, and he is a rare person for Chinese history, and particularly Qian’s calligraphy has a considerable significance the art history in Yunnan even for whole Chinese art history, his calligraphy deserves more research that it has received, and it’s a meaningful thing. This paper is divided into four parts to discuss the art of qian’s calligraphy:The first part is Qian’s family background and main achievements. The second part is the stylish tendency of his calligraphy;besides, the most significant is the changes of Qian’s official position:Firstly, The early stage before he applied for becoming part of ancient government’s member. That is to say, From the time he was born to the time before he attended the Chin-Shin Group Test, The cultivation of his family, teachers and friends had a major influence on him. Secondly, being a officer at the city of political center., He kept in touch with those people who were working at the same place and have same hometown. What is more,he also spent more time on calligraphy.lt is the time when he stayed at the building called "Ting Yu Lou", and it belongs to the person who named Yuli Zhou. With the time staying there, Qian had a time to see the treasure from Zhou,<Ting Yu Lou’s calligraphy>. After that, Qian is more diligent at practicing calligraphy. With the period staying at the city of political center, he had lots of chances to contact those people who had a tremendous influence to him. Thirdly, Is surrounding he was a officer out of the political center, which he not only got really close with some of people who had same idea with him, but he also helped some younger people have a chance to let themselves achieve high ambitions. It is a point to explore the development and communication of the calligraphy art of Qian’s. Finally, once he was away from his political status, he got back to hometown and spent plenty of time with teachers and friends. Moreover, he wrote plenty of calligraphy works, and lots of work he did by this time are still preserved at Yunnan. The third part is the influence of Qian’s calligraphy in Qing dynasty. His whole life is following with Zhenqing Yan, the person who is well known to all with honorable and good at calligraphy. (Chinese tradition has a explaination ".calligraphy quality equal to people’s character.)Qian’s calligraphy is linked to the time after qianlong period when people all started practicing Qian and Yan’s calligraphy style that helped a lot keep an important position in the development of art history. The fourth part focuses on the significance of Qian’s calligraphy for contemporary art, even though his work does not belong to this time but it still could inspire us to think a lot when we are learning art now.
