Typology is one of the basic research methodologies of Chinese Archaeology, it is the foundation of every other deeply research; and the analysis of the cultural elements is the extension of the typology, it is the premise of the research of the cultural original, content and the interactions with the other cultures. In the late 80s, a large amount of the western archaeological theories were introduced into China, and then, the theory and the methodology of the settlement archaeology became part of the Chinese archaeology gradually. The material of Southern Shandong Province of Zhou Dynasty is quite abundant; the chronological and cultural researches have got better outcomes. While at this time, I noticed that the past studies paid more attentions on the tomb material while ignoring the systematical research on the house material, and the absence of the cultural and society studies is also worth noticing. Therefore, relying on the pottery typology and analysis of the cultural elements, after carding the past house and settlement material, combining the tomb and city analysis, this article intends to establish the general chronology framework of different kind of settlements; and then, basing on the complete chronology framework, starting from the settlement archaeological aspect, analyzing the different levels of the settlements in the Southern Shandong Province, and finally study the society situation of Lu culture in different time periods. In the typology part, this article choses the most typical pottery vessels in the house material, so it could be a little different with the former typology framework. The difference could be identified on the pottery combinations, while the using vessels and the burial vessels are actually two independent systems, even though the connection is quite close. In the settlement research part, according to the history records and the archaeological finds, the DongZhou period could be divided into three time ranges: Early-Middle Chunqiu, Late Chunqiu-Early Zhanguo, and Middle-Late Zhanguo Period; and the Southern Shandong Province could be divided into several subareas: the Ancient Lu City and the surrounded settlement area, the Ancient Xue City and thesurround settlement area, the Periphery Area of Taiyi Mountain Range-Xintai-Yishui. In this way, the character of the subareas could be shown in a quite clear matter. As for my opinion, the major factor of the Southern Province of Dongzhou could be Lu culture, with the combination of different cultural elements. The reason for this kind of cultural communication could be various, in this progress, the principal status of Lu culture was shocked and then decreased gradually. On the other hand, the effects of the outcome’s could be seen at the higher and lower level of settlements, the houses and the burials, the center area and the periphery area of Lu culture. The unique character of the Ancient Xue City and the surrounded culture make this area a relatively equal independent culture area.
