| Chinese classical gardens are featured by rich artistic achievements and unique styles, which have developed a school of its own; among which, Suzhou Classical Gardens are distinguished representatives and are the finest under heaven as the typical landscape in the south area of the Yangtze River. In the context of globalization exchanges between China and other countries are increasingly expanding, which has brought both opportunities and challenges to our traditional culture and national classics. The translators bear a compelling obligation to act as a bridge between China and the West. In this report, I try to sum up the translation strategies of the project under the guidance of the Relevance Theory and explore how to eliminate cultural barriers and differences as much as possible, so that the target readers could gain a better contextual effect with less effort. With that, the original author and target readers could achieve the optimal relevance. The whole report includes four chapters: the first chapter is the task description, including the task background and translation theory; the second chapter is the task process, which is composed of the translation process, difficulties and solutions; the third chapter is the case study, which presents a contrastive analysis of translation strategies employed in the two different versions; the fourth part is the conclusion, which sums up the experience and lessons gained in the translation process and the practical significance of this project. |
