| It doesn’t matter whether we are speaking of news style writing or literary writing, headline or caption is the most important element of an article, it is known as the "eye" of an article. Along with the development of digital media and people’s proclivity towards fast lifestyle, caption or headline is playing a very important role in transmitting information. A good caption can effectively express an important information in a very short time and also can attract reader’s attention to read a article, otherwise a reader will ignore to read a article no matter how substantial the content of an article is. That’s why in this thesis, from the above mentioned point of view, I have tried my best to make a comparative study between news caption and literary caption and also tried to make readers comprehend the layout rule of caption from a easily understandable language, in order to help writers and readers to recognize the rule of layout of captions and select proper captions according to their need respectively.This thesis is mainly divided into five sections. The first section is mainly introduction and the definitions of news style writing and literary writing style. In this section I have also systematically arranged the research work of other scholars and divided those works into certain categories from the aspect of research style and results like news caption study, literary caption study, vernacular caption study etc, also determine the research method and content.In the second section I have summarized the two type of writing style in basis of their characteristics, formation and classification. The fundamental difference of these two types of writing style lies within the usage of speech, vocabulary, sentence pattern and figures of speech or rhetoric.In the third section I have made a systematic data statistic of the captions of Huadi section and entertainment section of Yangcheng evening news paper, regarding this statistic as a basis I have made a comparative analysis of the usage of language, vocabulary, grammar in news caption and literary caption.In the fourth and fifth section I have separately conducted in depth analysis and discussion of the sentence formation and figures of speech or rhetoric of these two types of caption.In this thesis I have selected 365 editions from 2015/2/1 to 2016/1/31 of Yangcheng evening news paper. I mainly studied the differences of the usage of vocabulary, grammar and figures of speech or rhetoric in news captions and literary captions from Huadi section and entertainment section of Yangcheng evening news, as well as differntiate and analyze the prominent features of these two types of writing style.From the aspect of research method, this article has conducted within certain period and with certain quantity. In the process of my analysis I have tried to use comparative, descriptive, analytical, conclusive and statistical method. I have used quantitative statistical analysis to carry out investigative study on huge bulk of recent grammatical and language phenomenon in news paper captions. Furthermore, on the basis of descriptive analysis of usage of language in different captions of Huadi section and entertainment section from different editions of Yangcheng evening news paper I have compared grammatical features and made discriminative analysis of the data gathered from my study as well as found regularity of certain things from differences and thus achieved the objective of my study. |
