As a kind of movie with full of vitally, Sports movies focus on sports while use the image of sports games to convey positive feelings including fighting, selflessness, beyond, and forward. which be liked by people.AS an important part of Hollywood movies, sports movies express "American dreams"This paper used Literature Review Method, Content Analysis Method, case study method analyzes the way Hollywood movies express "American dreams"the writer of this paper chose the encode table to do quantitative analysis on Hollywood sports movies, there are five parts in encode table: basic information of movies, basic information of sports, proposition of sports spirits, culture characteristic of "American dreams", national elements of USA. In the part of basic information of movies, it has Name, Release date, Production Co, Genres, Director, Writer, Runtime, Rewards, Gross, Budget,Cast, Name of role, Gender of role, Age of role, Profession of role.etc.in the part of basic information of sports including Name of sports, Level of sports games, Level of sports games’ scenes, Level of sport skill, Level of verbal violence, Level of body violence. When it comes to proposition of sports spirits, writer used six different propositions to represent sports spirits which include proposition of fair competition, proposition of team work, proposition of work hard, proposition of beyond ability, proposition of success, proposition of overcome adversity." through reading related works, writer found that American dreams has various meaning and characteristic including: freedom, fair, dream, achieved, upward, wealthy, heroism, innovative and adventure. About national elements of USA,it can be shown in national flag, national song and national map.Hollywood sports movies have these factors: big scene, high quality games, however sometimes there are verbal and body violence in sports movies, but not too serious.At first, almost half of sports in Hollywood movies is ball sports, then is weigh sports like boxing, fighting, etc, racing and horse racing together behind top 2 gymnastics water sports and winter sports ranked from 4th to 6th.Next, the most characteristic sports movies show is achieved that means role accomplished his or her goal by working hard. besides, it is clear that the major role in sports movies has a dream. Then writer found the major role in movies finally got upward in social level due to his or her own efforts. As we know, the United States is an immigration country which human rights and fair play important roles in its history, but in Hollywood sports movies, these two characteristics rarely be found. This paper pointed out that heroism and wealthy are last two characteristics shown in sports movies.Finally, this paper concluded by using cross-tabulation on proposition of "American dreams" with other factors and doing Chi-square test.
