From the late 19th century to the early 20th century, the first wave of the feminist movement appeared in Europe, its purpose was to fight for equal rights to men in life and political area. The second wave of feminism was in the 60 s and 70 s of the 20th century, and its main feature was to deny the traditional feminism and to create a female non-mainstream culture.During the 60 s and 70 s of the 20th century, feminist criticism entered the third stage. The female consciousness was not opposite to the male in this period. In the mid-90s, feminism spread to China,and also promoted the development of the feminist film.In the 1980s, Chinese film directors created a large number of female images with inner experience, who have the qualities of a new era, but they tended to put women in social and political background, and consciously integrated their creation with the mainstream values of the times to build up many mainstream texts of ideology, which mixed the political purpose with the individually spiritual experience. In the 1990s, directors turned their backs on praise of the spiritual "female" to shape reaily ordinary images of women, and finally sought the way to save females in real trouble. In the new century, after the adjustment of the 90 s Chinese directors, more and more directors created many diversified female images in the film and faced up to social problems, revealing the cultural implication. Women in the movies of every age are unique, so the thesis is to discuss the Female consciousness through analyzing female movie images in different ages. Through discussion on the evolution of female images in Chinese female films, we can reveal the female consciousness in the films, and find the multi-level influence of marketization on women in china, to explore the way of development of feminist in China and the improvement of Chinese feminist films.The female images in the Chinese films change from the early stereotype to increasingly lively images, from submission to the mainstream discourse to subversion of the patriarchal culture and the patriarchal discourse. Female psychology changes from sorrow to revenge, which is reflection of a kind of female consciousness in the self regression.But subject to patriarchal culture in thousands of years in china, with the influence of modernization under the tide of market economy in China, Chinese women films also reflect the self-imposed exile in the female consciousness. To some extent, Chinese movie art enters into confusion of backsliding. We have to look for development way of female movies by seeking the understanding and tolerance between the sexes, breaking through the barriers of male discourse, turning back to dialogue, and building the dialectical concept of female subject. The female should become both social and gender subject in order to create the world of freedom, equality and gender harmony. The hope of Chinese feminist movies is to change the personal emotion into universal human emotions, to achieve more diversification and individuation, and to display the actual female spirit.
