improving the prison inmates correction effect and reducing the relapse rate after prisoners out of jail are not only always important problems for the harmony of the society but also important problems for prison and all sectors of society. Buddhism is an important part of traditional culture. After Han dynasty when it coming from India to China, Buddhism has formed rich theories and methods of the individual liberation and assumed the responsibilities of social moralization in the process of mergence with traditional Chinese culture. That is to say, Buddhism can not only ease suffering, but also eliminate evil. But after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, there is no in-depth study and practice of the application of Buddhism culture to prison inmates correction in the mainland of China. In this case, this article will explore the feasibility and necessity of the application.Why prison can make use of Buddhism culture for correcting inmates and how to use Buddhism culture correcting prison inmates, they are two key points for the research of this paper. Using the interdisciplinary comparison method, literature method and interview method, on one hand, this paper will focus on the research of suffering and evil of the inmates, which are the same questions for Buddhism and prison correction, on the other hand, this paper will summary of the Buddhist methods used in the inmates correction by studying the Fo Guang Shan prison moralization. On the based of two aspects, this paper will put forward the rational suggestions for mainland of China prisons by using Buddhist methods to correct inmates.The first chapter of this paper is introduction, which introduces the research origin, significance, method and literature review. This part is the description and bedding of this paper. The second chapter introduces the historical evolution of our country’s Buddhist prison moralization. In order to show the tradition of Buddhist prison moralization in our country history, this chapter introduces three situations of Buddhist prison moralization in China:the situation before the Republic of China; the situation in the period of the Republic of China; the situation in the Taiwan region after the Republic of China, which is the continuation and development of Republic of China. Insisting that suffering and evil are two breakthrough points in Buddhist prison moralization, the third chapter has studied not only the questions of suffering and evil in the Buddhism but also the suffering and evil questions faced by poison inmates. This chapter theoretically explains that why Buddhism could be used to prison inmates correction and this chapter also demonstrates that Buddhism can help prison inmates to ease worries and to be a good man. The fourth chapter introduces the situation of Fo Guang Shan prison moralization. And through the case analysis of Fo Guang Shan prison moralization, this chapter summarizes theorys and methods of Buddhist prison moralization. The last part of this paper summarizes the above discussion and shows the revelation that how to use Buddhism correcting inmates for the prison on the mainland of China.Overall, there are two innovations in this paper. First, filling the blank, which will not only fill the blank of the history, theory and practice research on Buddhism prison inmates correction, but also fill the research blank of Fo Guang Shan prison moralization in the mainland of China. Second, this paper puts forward that suffering and evil of inmates are the two breakthrough points for prison applying Buddhist theory and method to correct inmates. On the basis of dealing with the questions of inmates’ suffering and evil, Buddhist culture can help inmates to form peace of mind in the prison and help them to be a good man.
