Language promotion causes language contact. Likewise, language contact is accomplished through language promotion. However, the nature of language promotion is influenced by the limitation of history, as language is promoted differently in different periods of time, and the facets of language contact in different historic period will also manifest itself in different characteristics.Over the past two thousand years, Vietnam has been maintaining a close relationship with its neighboring country China which profoundly influenced the country’s language. Chinese language had been its official written language for a long period of time in Vietnam. Due to special historical circumstances, however, Mandarin has been abolished as an official written language. Based on the traits of language promotion and development, the writer categorizes the ancient Vietnamese language into seven periods:the Contact Period, Preparation Period, Developmental Period, Prosperity Period, Decline Period, Stagnant Period, and Recovery Period. In the process of the language promotion in the spectrum of natural occurrence to the unnatural occurrence, such as propelled by man’s efforts, Mandarin promotion in Vietnam is considered to be the most complete and the most classical model, especially considering the fact that the Mandarin’s influence in ancient Vietnam had stretched over first five language promotional and developmental periods. In today’s "Mandarin Fever" backdrop, the problems that each country faces in the aspect of this newly developed Chinese Language Globalization and Mandarin International Education takes different shapes. Ancient Vietnam had been one of the "Chinese Cultural Circle" countries, which maintained long-standing cultural exchanges. Unfortunately, Chinese Language Globalization hasn’t been smooth in the recent years. In this study, the characteristics, the process, the methods, the patterns of the Mandarin promotion are closely analyzed to obtain five basic sequentially related communication models. This study also analyzes the influence of the language contact on various aspect of ancient Vietnam seen from the historical perspective, and delves into an in-depth study of the extent and scope of Chinese promotion in ancient Vietnam. Lastly, anchored in Vietnam, this study statistically analyzes the status of the Vietnamese students in four universities in Yunnan and Guangxi Provinces and the foreign students from Thailand, Laos and Cambodia in Yunnan Province. It also studies the establishment of the Confucius Institutes in "Chinese Cultural Circle" countries such as Korea, Japan and Vietnam, ten Southeastern Asia countries and counties in the five continents. This study not only attempts to discover the recently arising issues in Mandarin International Education, but also analyzes and reflects upon the cause of the problems. Integrating the successful influence of Mandarin promotion in ancient Vietnam and the discrepancies in the language promotion in Mandarin International Education, this paper suggests the plans to improve this transitional period of Chinese Language Globalization.
