Analyzing And Study On Singing About Brahms’ Zigeunerlider

Brahms, as one of the most outstanding composers in the 19th century, made great contribution to the field of lieder as well. His compositions are the combination of Romantic and Classical characteristics. My research will be focus on Acht Zigeunerlieder. The style and feature of this song cycle by Brahms will be manifested.Nowadays, more than 100 pieces of lieders by Brahms are quite popular in China,such as Dein Blaues Auge, Vier Ernste Gesange,While Acht Zigeunerlieder is a overlooked lieder suit. My research is to figure out how Brahms applied Hungarian national characteristics into classical principles by analyzing pieces during his mature period. I will take versions sang by Brigitte Fassbaender and Susan Graham’s as examples.
