19th century western art takes upon an important position in human art history. Either from conception, form or technique, 19th century western art takes a good example for its successors, for example, the remarkable representatives are critic realism and impressionism both of which originated and prospered in the 19th century. On the other side, because of the introduction of science and democracy in social and cultural revolution, and the affections of thousands of returned overseas Chinese, China also attended in the waves of inheriting and carrying forward 19th century western traditional art. It can be said that, in the field of Chinese fine art, the influence of 19th century western art cannot be underestimated. Comparing to China contemporary art, because of the impact of many new thoughts and conceptions, in some extents, there are some value confusions and deviations in contemporary art field. So this paper tends to begin with some important characters of 19th century art, and combine with China contemporary art since 85'New Wave to dig valuable heritage of 19th century western art, furthermore, to find new questions and new ways.From the structure of this paper, it will be divided into three parts. The first part briefly introduces the importing and absorbing of western fine art in China, especially 19th century western art, from the birth of 20th century to the founding of People's Republic China. It's mainly reflected at the introduction of 19th western art such as new classicalism, literalism and impressionism, which caused drastic cultural shock in China and built good foundation for further developed. The second part emphasizes on two controversies in Chinese art field after opening and reforming policy, one was a great discussion of impressionism launched by Wu Guanzhong in 1980, and the other was a debate on"reality"in art because of Luo Zhongli's painting. This part reveals the great impetus of 19th century art to China cultural reforming proceeding. The third part is the main part; the author will concretely explore aesthetics value of 19th century western art in the following viewpoint: art autonomy, art reality, artistic individuality and art rule. At the same time of revealing these art disciplines, some significant phenomena such as Nameless Painting Association, Chen Danqing and new Academism will be listed in the method of analogy to proof that the function of 19th century western art can not be replaced.In the author's view, on the one hand, there is a diversification flow which bases on the sprit of letting a hundred of flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend, but on the other hand, it shows a complicated situation in China contemporary art field, for instance, so-called avant-garde art and post-modern culture which not merely represent new value orientation of culture, but also a completely different aesthetics taste from the past. So the heritage of 19th century is highly evaluated because of its strong pertinence. The direct influence is not merely a rebirth of art value, also means that moral and value concepts will become the reference frame once again to compare to today's art, so that art itself will rebuild in artists'thoughts and become their self-consciousness. NO doubt, as long as the inheritance of tradition and the breakthrough from tradition, it will be the great renaissance of China contemporary art.
