Analysis On The Harmony In Piano Work Instant D’un Opera De Pekin

Instant d’un Opera de Pekin is a piano opus composed by Chen Qigang at the invitation of International Messiaen Piano Competition Organizing Committee. It’s one of the representative works of Chen’s mature period.The thematic material of the piano work Instant d’un Opera de Pekin is selected from the music of Peking Opera, Xingxian. The opus, which is based on the Yu mode, combines pentatonic parallel harmony and polytonality. Besides, it’s a combination of the structure of the Da-qu of Tang Dynasty and the genre of variations of the Occident, and thus formed its unique music style.This paper includes three parts. In the first part we analyze the harmonic techniques of Instant d’un Opera de Pekin from a micro perspective, exploring and inducing the logical relationship of its harmonic organization. Part two summarizes the harmonic techniques of the opus from a macro-perspective and illustrates the harmonic technique mainly used in Instant d’un Opera de Pekin. Part three shows the consideration brought by Chen Qigang’s creation concept. Starting with Chen’s personal experience and creation concept, based on Instant d’un Opera de Pekin, we discuss the problems existing in the music composition.
