The Research On Xi Funeral Of Jingpo In Nongbing Village Of Xishan Township Mangshi

Funeral is an ancient and complex social and culture phenomenon. Funeral has a long history and it is based on a profound social foundation. As one of the life ritual, there are different forms in different ethnic groups. Funeral culture plays an important part in ethnic culture. It is indispensable, because it discusses the relationship between human and nature, between human beings, as well as the reflecting on their own among the past present and future. In the process of human development, funeral ritual is the most important life ritual. This thesis focuses on Jingpo funeral in a Jingpo village located on western Yunnan province. According to the theories and methods of ethnology, this thesis describes the concept of faith and funeral ritual activities, research on the classification and cognition about the death in Jingpo’s ideological system, and the arrangement through different types of funeral ritual. Moreover, this article research on the definition of Xi funeral in their notion and the real arrangements in local Xi funeral. In the specific social and culture environment, it is the Xi funeral contributes a complex and powerful social interpersonal network within the village, across the village and outside the village.This thesis consists of three parts including introduction, main body and conclusion.The introduction lays out the theoretical basis of the study. The contents are essentially a review and reevaluation of previous study about the Kachin Jingpo and the funeral ritual. Moreover, it makes a brief introduction to the topic selecting causes, the purpose of research and the research significance and methods.The main body is divided into four chapters.Chapter 1 introduces the general environmental and historical background in Nongbing village, including geographic position, historical development of Xishan, and the population, family as well as means of livelihood of Nongbing Jingpo people.Chapter 2 deals with the Jingpo people’s concept system and cosmology in Nongbing village. Firstly, Jingpo people think there is another world where dead people living. Secondly, If you want to keep contract with the dead people in another world, you must ask the Dongsa, one of the presbyter, to help through the rituals. At last, there is a classification system among the Jingpo people’s funerals and rituals, according to the different situation.Charpter 3 concerns the Jingpo people’s Xi funeral rituals in Nongbing village. At the first time, it details the Jingpo people’s comedy funeral process and explains some announcements. Moreover, it presents some Xi funeral cases to explain and supplement individuality of comedy funeral.Charper 4 considers the interpersonal relationships among the Jingpo Xi funeral, including the relationship between Mayu and Dama; the relationship between the members of religious belief; and the relationship between the neighbor and colleagues. These three typical relationships play important role in Jingpo society.The concluding chapter is devoted to perspectives on the social meaning of the Xi funeral in Nongbing.
