The Research Of "Yao Wo Shuo" And Its Related Formats

"Yao wo shuo" has the basic features and functions of discourse marker, which does not affect the semantic expression of sentence and the function of text is greater than messaging, so it can be regarded as discourse marker. This thesis carries out a more systematically combing and research on "yao wo shuo" base on summarizes of the previous studies. On the one hand it will be promoting combining Western Linguistics with Chinese reality and help for our comprehensive survey on the process and laws of verb phrase marker; on the other hand it also plays a role for language teaching and application.There are six chapters in this thesis as follows:The first chapter reviews the previous studies of "yao wo shuo" and confirm its attribution. Also educing the research contents of this thesis and defining the methodology and corpus sources.The second chapter analyzes the presence status in modern Chinese of "yao wo shuo". It has four different forms in modern Chinese language, including the causative sentences, assumption sentences, comparative sentences and discourse markers. As a discourse marker, it has distinct characteristics:recognizability of speech, independence of syntax, procedural character of semantic, and metapragmatics of functional. In addition, it has very flexible position in discourse which can locate at the beginning or the middle of turn.The third chapter discusses the discourse function of "yao wo shuo". Considering the classification is not comprehensive and the explanation is not enough concreteness in previous studies. In this study the author thinks that "yao wo shuo" has three main functions based on the previous research, which are discourse organization function, interpersonal function and meta-pragmatic functions. Conducting a detailed analysis on each category features and summarizing many small specific features.The fourth chapter reviews the generate history "yao wo shuo" as discourse marker. Consider that it start using in the assumption language environment as discourse markers. When the "Ruo" has no logical sense and the ingredients behind the introduction of "yao wo shuo" were mainly used to express subjective attitude of the speaker, its jurisdiction domain to expand, subjectivity enhance, then the discourse markers function is formed. Through analysis, we believe that the process of the mark of "yao wo shuo" is actually a process of grammar. It is under the interaction of subjectivization and inter-subjectivization, frequency condition and repetition mechanism, re-analysis and metaphors, or many other mechanisms. Also it has experienced the projection from row domain to knowledge domain, and to saying domain. And finally it realize the grammaticalization.The fifth chapter compares and analyzes the similarities and differences between "yao wo shuo" and other related formats, such as "wo shuo", "yi wo kan","wo jue de" "wo ren wei", "wo yao shuo" and so on. There are differences in the subjectivity, certainty factor, degree of grammaticalization etc.The sixth chapter summarizes the main points of this thesis and points out the shortcomings and the questions are yet to be resolved in the future.
