Scholars who fail in an imperial examination was a product of the imperial examination system,a group who were eliminated. Yuan was a special period in the history of imperial examination,because of not implemented in long period. Yuan was a dynasty established united country by Mongolian,for the unique social environment and cultural differences,together with all sorts of reasons, the imperial examination system was implemented until the mid-Yuan Dynasty.Due to had the number of the successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations very few,so Scholars who fail become an commonplace things in Yuan Dynasty imperial examination.In this paper,taking scholars who fail in an imperial examination as the object of study,the first,discourse the admission and fail overview of Xiangshi and Huishi,classify the scholars who fail in an imperial examination, together the test subjects increased, region and ethnicity quotas the same amount three factors, analysis the difficulty of the imperial examination, so fail was the normality in the Yuan Dynasty imperial examinations life.Afterwards, discuss the mentality of scholars who fail in an imperial examination and the Yuan government preferential policy.Scholars of grace cases in the final examination and provincial examination of preparation of the list were offered the scholastic profession;Scholars who fail in the final examination become the alternates of Lianfangsishuli,and analysis appease effect. And then,using the typical scholars who fail in an imperial examination as examples,describe their livelihood,expound their living activities in politics, culture, education, medical and others.Still,analyze the impact on social values, official structure and local society management. Finally, sum up the development situation of scholars who fail in an imperial examination in the large social context of the middle and later period of the Yuan dynasty.
