Ding Yan was a famous scholar in the Qing Dynasty. He had a systemic study of the Book of Songs. His research involved the exegetical study, interpretation and textual criticism. There were many scholars studied on the Book of Songs in Han Dynasty and Song Dynasty. Ding Yan payed a lot attentions in the results of their studies. Many of DingYan’s books about the research on the Book of Songs are worth studying. In this paper, the author mostly analyses and summarizes of Ding Yan’s academic achievements in studing on the Book of Songs.The first chapter discusses Ding Yan’s life and academic situation. Ding Yan’s teachers and friends have a certain degree of influence on his academic. According to the activities of his life, his academic origin can be investigatedThe second chapter analyzes his collation achievements, including analyzing his research methods and his principles in collating books. He often collated by detailed information, and gave some detailed reason. His judgments were always correct.The third chapter mainly analyzes his achievements in the field of annotation.In this chapter, the author will also discuss his academic characteristics in terms of annotation.The fourth chapter summarizes his academic ideas and discusses which school should he belongs to.Wu School. Yangzhou School and Anhui School had different academic specialties. Ding Yan had a teacher-student relationship with some scholars.His teacher was a member of the Wu School. Compared with others, His academic style was more similar with Wu School.
