This report is on the translation of the first six chapters of Moon over Manifest, a fantastic children’s literary work for its exquisite wording and vivid description. This novel is written by Clare Vanderpool, who won the Gold Award of Newbery Medal in 2011. It mainly describes a story about Aibileen, who left her father and went to an unfamiliar town in a summer on her own. There she found some friends and strange tiny things which attracted her to explore more about the small town.No doubt the author has come across some difficulties during the translation process, for example, how to structure the whole story, how to deal with the differences between Chinese and English culture, how to express the particular features of each character, how to translate different names, whether it is necessary to revise punctuation marks and etc.. After analyzing the source text, the author has made a summary on common translation methods about children’s literature and decided to carry out the translation task under the guidance of the theories about context and register. By resorting to the register analysis of each discourse, the author will show the translation process under the guidance of three main translation methods and five modes according to the context of culture and the context of situation in this report. This report consists of five parts. The first part is about the task description; The second part describes the translation process; The third part includes the introduction of theories which were used in this translation process; The fifth part is the conclusion of this report. On completing this translation project, the author has not only practiced the ability of translation, but also achieved better comprehension of children’s literature and its translation methods. It is hoped that this report will be conducive to the translation of texts of the similar genre in the future.
