Within a hundred years since Macartney visited China,printmaking and photography was used on visual exploration in China,including images of war,remote areas and scientific investigation.In the nineteenth century,not only the symbols of colonialism was recorded,but there are also so much other recorded images like the centerstreetin the Qing empire,coastal fishing village,opera in remote village,towers on the Great Wall and Yuanmingyuan before destruction.As the West had grasped the absolute power and right to speak,the Chinese image it presented appeared far from reality and a variety.Chinese people and its scenes were repeated in confusion and wanton.So,when we read entire images across nineteenth century,it was not hard to find that China has become the image of being biased,solid and insulated from progresses and reforms.In the first chapter, the article will list valuable point and discuss what are the research purposes as well as why should I research it.In the second chapter,it is mainly about solving the historical and conceptual issues related to.In the third chapter,the article will show very specific examples to reveal how Chinese images were build.In the fourth chapter,I will discuss the complexity of this phenomenon,it is more than just purely so called "imperialist conspiracy".In Chapters V and VI, the article will summarize the foregoing ideas and explain the shortages in this article.
