The classical poetry characterizes with implicity and conciseness, the language of classical poetry, in fact, is a kind of special and mysterious symbol system, it not only owns a kind of abstract, systematic and rational connotation, but also emotional feeling, the highlight of Chinese classical poetry is that using the least language to express the most affluent content and thought, which is the feature of implicity, so people regard the image embodied in translation as the difficulty in the translating research. Classical Poetry, as the peak of the development of Chinese classical poetry, has been accepted and spread out overseas widely. With abundant traditional cultural conceptions and moralities, classical poetry is endowed with some features: profound and comprehensive contents, elegant and exquisite form and extremely high artistic achievement. In order to promote colorful traditional cultural thoughts and morality conceptions, this essay will illustrate the charm of images reconstruction in Classical Poetry English Translation by the translation of Classical Poetry, in order to explore the methods of the cultural connotations which are endowed in conveying image accurately.Schema is a kind of fixed form existing in people’s brain about the past living experience and scientific cultural knowledge, which is often used to help comprehend and accept new matters. Schema theory, as an important theory in psychology,Immanuel Kant(1781) firstly suggested “schema”, and Frederick Bartlett(1932) put it into use in modern psychological study, which gradually reaches maturity and fullness.Schema theory put emphasize on the role of background knowledge and schema(knowledge of structures) in text interpretation. Schema theory explains how readers retrieve or construct meaning from their pre-existed knowledge and past experience. The knowledge which has been acquired previously is called the reader’s background knowledge. The structure of the already acquired knowledge is called Schemata(Carrel and Eisterhold, 1983). Schema theory reveals people perceive new message by activate the given schema in brains, from the past to now, few researchers apply schema to the field of researching translation. Recently, many scholars in our nation apply schema to strengthen the function of reading text, in the meantime, combining the theory of translation to make a deeper research of it.Recently, most scholars analyze the translation of Tang poetry mainly by using image schema theory to analyze and understand it and study the translating strategies, but a few scholars accurately make a comparative analysis of Tang poetry from the angle of history. This paper will attempt to use language schema theory, formal schema theory and content schema theory to explore and analyze Tang poetry translations and to illustrate the research of image reconstruction of classical poetry translations.Chapter one mainly illustrates this paper’ researching background, purpose and significance of this study, research questions and structure.Chapter two mainly introduces the schema theory including its definition, classification, characteristic and previous studies of image reconstruction and some difficulties in image reconstruction.Chapter three is the theoretical framework, and gives a systematic introduction to the processing ways of schema activation, the relationship between schema and translation as well as the application situation of schema theory in the translation of poetry especially in Classical Poetry is introduced.Chapter four mainly discusses difficulties in the translation of Classical Poetry and meanwhile gives some methods to help solve these difficulties. The author analyzes the application of schema theory in the translation of classical poetry. The analysis is done from the three levels of schema theory including language schema, formal schema and content schemata to explain the importance of the schema theory in the course of classical poetry translation. The fifth chapter concludes and summarizes the main findings and limitations, it analyzes the part and orientations of future study.According to the analysis of the whole paper, the conclusions are as follows:(1) Schema, as experience and knowledge stored in people’s brain, by analyzing different Tang poetry translations, can be used to strengthen image reconstruction of translating Tang poetry.(2) During the course of translating classical poetry, translator, as the first reader of classical poetry, when translators understand the real connotation of poetry and occupy the capability of transforming target language, only in this way can we hand in a high-level classical poetry for readers.(3) Because there exist plenty of differences in languages and cultures between China and western countries, when we translate classical poetry, we often encounter with the frustrations in translations, it is not so easy to accurately express its connotation and situations, translators should combine schema and translation strategy, and make some creations in the original text, only in this way will it be favorable to activate readers’ schema and understand the text. The author intends to enrich the research of translating classical poetry by this paper, and strengthens the interaction and communication between Chinese and western cultures in order to promote the advancement and development of world civilization.Because the author of this paper only chooses a small part of classical poetry to analyze. There exists some shortcomings in comprehensiveness.
