Study Of Media Bias

Study on the novel and film, has always been the focus of attention. Based on the media bias theory, and by using the method of comparative analysis,I will explore how to convert between the novels and movies of two kinds of media.At the same time, I will analyze and refute the viewpoint that whether it is faithful to the original work in the process of the adaption. This essay is divided into five parts:First of all, the essay makes a literature review and analysis on the research of the novel and film adaptation in the academic circles. Through the analysis of domestic and foreign research monographs and research essays,we can find it that there are many academic research about the film adaptation of the novel in recent years, it can be divided mainly into two categories: one is to study the adaptation process, including the reasons of the adaptation,policies or principles of adaptation,advantages and disadvantages of the adaptation and effect of its adaptation to the novel and film, the current situation of adaptation, and the source type of adaptation and so on; the other is the use of different research perspectives. Including mainly study of narratology, study of comparative analysis and close reading, study of aesthetic, study of cultural, study of communication, and so on. Although scholars has been studied the process of the adaptation from different angles, however, the novel and the film are two different media, very few scholars analysis the process of conversion of two media from inside and macro, which provides the study of the author with a new space. In addition, Shelton is a American famous master of popular fiction, but he has also made very significant achievements on theatre and the area of film, he has won an Oscar, Tony Award. Shelton also involved in the novel and film,and therefore taking his work as an example analyzes the process of adaptation and transformation between the two media of novels and film, which is very representative and meaningful.The first chapter is that "media, text media, film media" had been analyzed and defined. When analying carefully the text media and the cinema media, we find that there are the same characteristics as an intermediary between the text media and film media, which makes the exchange of the two conversions possible.But as different media, both of them have their own characteristics and bias, so there are some problems in the process of the film adaptation of the novel.The second chapter starting from the outside of the media, we mainly analyzes rational bias or emotional bias, sensory bias and social bias of the media which the novels and films rely on. Because the media of the novel relying on is language,and language is abstract, which amplifies the people’s visual senses, so readers need tohave the literacy skills and certain logical thinking ability and imagination to read, so it has a rational and biased visual bias. This also contributes to the "spread of literacy and education," and take advantage of "social formation homogenization"; the films will present the sound and image directly in front of an audience, it is synchronized to enhance and enlarge people’s visual and auditory senses senses. But it does not require people to learn to interpret blueprints, people just need to have leisure time to spend on the trip. Therefore, it is in favour of development of consumerism and the rise of liberal.The third chapter starting from the inside of the media to, As "Bloodline" an example, from the expression of the theme, the description of plot, characterization,the description of environment in four areas, I will analysis of the conversion process about novels and films.since the dependence of different media, the expression of the theme will be different. This makes the novel and film in the episode description,characterization, description of environment and other aspects should also be adjusted accordingly. These media bias connect with each other,and complement each other,they form a whole.The last part of the essay discusses the possible outcomes of media bias, and put forward own proposals. I believe that, precisely because of the different media from the novels and the film, so in the face of a bunch of matter,they have the different expression and meanings, and they have a bias. However, if both according to their own biases continue to develop, especially in the "Reading Pictures" Today, the novel may be marginalized, faced with the loss of readers, become the presence of specialized research areas,and put itself in danger.In order to comply with requirements of the development, and pursue of an orgy of image and consumption,Movies may become empty and entertainment. Therefore, I believe, the "Reading Pictures" has come to social trends, novels and films in the future development should learn from each other, to achieve the harmonious development of a sonogram. Novel can reference image thinking and image expression of the film. the film is to show the rich storytelling and vivid sense of the picture, it should also strengthen the implication of the expression of ideas works. Thus, the novel and film can achieve common development.
