Study On Peony Pattern And Lotus Pattern Of Xixia Relics

This paper uses archaeological typology to study current peony pattern and lotus pattern on Xixia cultural relics, and divides its development stage into three phases.The first phase is from the founding years of the new nation to Huizong emperor Bingchang Year(AD 1038-1086 years), peony pattern was not popular while lotus pattern had been a mainstream decoration and widely used. The second phase is from late time of HuiZong emperor Bingchang Year to Hengzong Chunyou Year(AD1086-1206 years), the peony pattern entered into a period of rapid development and increasingly became mature, the lotus pattern continued to develop, but the style is not as rich as before. The third phase is from the late time of Hengzong Chunyou Year to Modixia emperor(AD 1206-1227 years). During the period, the peony pattern and lotus pattern all came into a period of decline. This paper sorts out the systematic developing process of the two patterns through the three periods of its development,and sums up the style characteristics peony pattern and lotus pattern in Xixia period,finds that the complex changes of the decorative design owns its national characteristics, influenced by surrounding ethnic groups. In this process of exploring and absorbing advanced cultures and melting with their own national style, finally forges a unique style of peony pattern and lotus pattern. In the end, analyze and discuss some individual peony pattern and lotus pattern relics and confirm its age.
